Message from the Vice Chancellor

I am proud to assume the responsibility of the First Vice Chancellor of Gurucharan University, Silchar, Assam. The newly upgraded University has the legacy of 90 years old Gurucharan College, a leading institution of higher education in Southern Assam.

The Gurucharan College was established on 15th July 1935 by the visionary leaders of South Assam. The College has immensely contributed to the socio-economic transformation of the region since its inception. The initial transition from Gurucharan College to the University marks a significant step from this academic session, 2025-26.

We have entered a very significant stage of economic development in India with a vision to achieve 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, i.e in Amrit Kaal. To achieve that glorious feat of economic growth, manpower planning focusing on skill enhancement of the younger population is crucial. The demographic dividend that India is currently enjoying will significantly contribute to achieving the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'. Educational institutions have a significant role to play in this transition.

Gurucharan University has a crucial role in empowering the youths of Southern Assam, focusing on employability through a focused approach to capacity building within the framework of NEP 2020. The historic NEP 2020 mandated vast opportunities to nurture young talents through a structured curriculum and pedagogy, emphasising value-based education and skill orientation.

The University will progress towards achieving academic excellence, strengthening academic, research and extension activities in Southern Assam, aligning with the NEP 2020 framework.
